Notice

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Elettronica Mangione collects, uses and protects the information you provide to us when you use our website, products or services ("Services"). We are committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable Italian data protection laws.

1. Collection of information

We collect information about you when you interact with us or use our Services. This information may include:

  • Personal data such as name, email address, and phone number
  • Technical information such as IP address and browsing data
  • Other information you volunteer to us

2. Use of information

We use your information to:

  • Providing and improving our Services
  • Communicating with you and responding to your requests
  • Fulfilling legal and contractual obligations
  • Personalize your user experience

3. Information sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with third parties only in the following cases:

  • With your explicit consent
  • To fulfill legal obligations
  • With service providers who assist us in delivering the Services

4. Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Accessing your personal information
  • Request rectification or deletion of your data
  • Restrict or object to the processing of your data
  • Requesting data portability
  • Withdraw consent at any time

5. "Human Chess" game

The game (Human Chess) requires no registration. The neural networks and the chess engine run inside your browser: your games against the bot are not sent to our servers.

  • Data stored on your device. In the browser's local storage (localStorage) the game keeps your settings, the game in progress, the "My games" archive, your "Learn openings" progress and the name you choose for online play. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us; you can delete it at any time by clearing the site data in your browser.
  • Online games with a friend. If you create or accept an online game, our server (hosted in Italy) stores: the name or nickname you freely choose (optional, a made-up one is fine), the moves, the clock times, the result and a random code identifying your seat in the game. This data is used only to run the game, is visible only to your opponent, is not used for any other purpose or shared with third parties, and is deleted automatically after 3 days. As for every page of the site, the hosting provider records the IP address of requests in its technical logs.
  • Tournaments with friends. If you create or join a tournament, our server (hosted in Italy) stores: the tournament name, the nickname you freely choose (a made-up one is fine), the pairings, the game results and two random codes identifying the organiser and your seat. The list of players and the standings are visible to anyone with the tournament link; the data is not used for any other purpose or shared with third parties and is deleted automatically 45 days after the tournament's last activity (7 days if the tournament never starts). To limit abuse, an anonymous fingerprint of the creation request, not the IP address, is kept for one hour. For minors we recommend using made-up nicknames only.
  • Anonymous statistics. To know how much the game is used we count, only as daily totals, visits and some actions (games started and finished, chosen level, reviews, openings, online games, tournaments), the referring site and the device type. We use no cookies or other data on your device, no external services, and we do not record your IP address: to estimate the day's visitors we use an anonymous fingerprint computed with a random code that is deleted the next day, so no one can be identified.
  • "Talk to Grandpa" (Google Gemini). If you ask Grandpa a question in the chat, the text of the question, the last questions and answers of the conversation and the position data on the board (moves and analysis) are sent, through our server, to Google's Gemini service to write the answer; if Gemini is unavailable, to Alibaba's Qwen model through OpenRouter, using only providers that do not use the data for training. We send no personal data; please do not type any in your questions. On the free tier Google may use these texts to improve its products. Our server does not store the questions: it only keeps, for 24 hours, an anonymous request counter to limit their number.
  • Position from a photo. If you use "📷 From photo" in the editor, the image is sent, through our server, to Google's Gemini service (or, if unavailable, to a model via OpenRouter) only to recognise the pieces. Our server does not store it. Avoid photographing people or personal data.
  • Jev option (TypeSafe). Only if you enable it in the settings, the board position and the moves of the game are sent, through our server, to TypeSafe's Jev AI service to choose moves or advice. No personal data is sent.
  • Import from Chess.com and Lichess. If you search for your games, your browser asks Chess.com or Lichess directly for the public games of the username you type: the request does not go through our servers. The games you open are saved only in your browser, in the "My games" archive.
  • Chessnut board. The Bluetooth connection runs directly between your browser and your board; no data goes through our servers.
  • Camera. If you use a real board with the camera, the video is processed only in your browser to see which squares changed: it is not recorded, stored or sent to any server. If you keep Grandpa’s voice on (with or without the camera), the text he has to read, that is the bot’s move or one of his comments (never the video), is sent to our server and to OpenRouter to be read aloud; the sentences read are kept in a cache with no personal data. If you turn on voice commands or the “Voice moves” button, speech recognition is done by your browser: in Chrome the microphone audio is sent to Google servers to be turned into text, and we neither receive nor store it (it only starts from the “Voice commands” box and with microphone permission). You can revoke the camera permission at any time in your browser settings.
  • Online save (optional). Only if you turn it on from the "Backup" window, a copy of the game data (saved games, mistakes to review, progress, ratings and settings) is sent to our server and updated automatically. The copy is tied to a personal code created by your browser: we do not ask for a name or e-mail and we do not link the copy to your identity. Anyone who knows the code can read and change the copy. You can delete it from the server at any time from the same window; copies not used for 18 months are deleted automatically. To prevent abuse we count how many new copies are created in a day from the same network, using a non-reversible fingerprint of the IP address that is deleted the next day.

Legal basis: performance of the service you request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). To delete an online game or a tournament before the deadline, write to us at the address below.

6. Security

We take technical and organizational security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, or alteration.

7. Changes to the Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to change this privacy policy at any time. We encourage you to check this page regularly for updates.
